Trekking to the Lakes from Nainital

The Lakes within Nainital District form an important part by contributing to the growth in tourism. This 'Lake District' of India welcomes trekkers to feed in the beauty of this region and savour the delights of walking through the rugged trails and enjoy themselves completely.

Trekking to Khurpatal

The trek route from Nainital to Khurpatal covers a distance of 11 km by road but only 5 km by hiking as you follow the old trails running downhill and not the road. It is situated at a height of 1635 mts above sea level and offers a good view of the stagnant water pool which can also be seen from Land's end and very popular for fishing. It is surrounded with flat terraced fields probably from where it derives the name 'Khurpatal'.

Trekking to Sattal

After spending some time at Khurpatal, follow the route of another 11 km to arrive at Sattal perched at 1370 mts above sea level where you view the seven lakes that mysteriously connect with each other to form the 'Sattal' or 'Seven Lakes'. The surroundings are filled with Oak and Pine Trees that adds an old charm to these lakes.

Trekking to Bhimtal

Bhimtal is just another 2 km from Sattal and named after the great Bhim from the Mahabharata fame that welcomes you with a unique view of an Island that sits at the heart of this Lake and is accessible by boat. You can also relish some good snacks available at a restaurant built on this Island and continue your journey further.

Trekking to Naukuchiatal

As you finish you tour around Bhimtal, hike another 4 km to reach Naukuchiatal that is a lake with nine corners; hence, the name 'Nau' meaning 'Nine' and 'Kuchia' meaning 'Corners' was originated though it is not possible to view all the nine corners at one time. This is also the deepest Lake amongst all the lakes of Nainital.
