Hanuman Garhi in Nainital

Hanuman Garhi, also written as Hanumangarhi is situated about 4 km from the Nainital main bus stop or 3 km south of Tallital and sits at an altitude of 1955 mts above sea level. The name of the place was given after a temple of Lord Hanuman was established around 1950 by Baba Neem Karoli who was a very famous Saint in this region who worshipped Lord Hanuman ardently. A large standing statue of Lord Hanuman is seen adjacent to the Temple covered with a huge golden coloured umbrella. Lord Hanuman was an avid devotee of Lord Rama and Mata Sita of the Ramayana epic rescued Mata Sita from the clutches of the demon Ravana of Lanka and fought valiantly along with Lord Rama to defeat Ravana; hence most of his statues depict his chest opened up with the picture of Lord Rama and Mata Sita reigning in his heart.
