Chaukori Trekking

Chaukori (Also spelled as 'Chowkri') is 60 km from Bageshwar and famous for fruit orchards, tea gardens, thick forest and a lovely cool climate. It is surrounded by the majestic Himalayan ranges and unmanned natural beauty. The best thing to watch here is the sun setting behind the Himalayas making it a memorable experience.

There are three trekking routes that you can follow which are ideal for both amateur and avid trekkers as the paths are easy and comfortable. The first one starts from Chaukori to the small towns of Berinag, situated at a distance of 10 km from Chaukori and elevated at a height of 1720 mts above sea level. This place is famous for tea gardens and a view of the Himalayan ranges. The next stop is at Patal Bhiwaneshwar situated 28 km from Berinag and at a height of 1350 mts and famous for being the abode of 330 million Gods and Goddesses and a cave temple associated to the Pandavas of the Mahabharata epic. After an overnight stay continue to Gangolihat which is 14 km from Patal Bhiwaneshwar famous for its music, folk and religious cultures.

The second route starts from Chaukori to Kotgari via Kotbaniya and Dharmghat. Dharmghat is 9 km from Chaukori and famous for Sarla Behan, a disciple of Mahatma Gandhi Ji who had spent her last days here in Himdarshan Kutir from where you can view the great Himalayan Peaks. Final stop is at Kotgari which is a spiritual place famous for a temple where deprived victims of cruelty and injustice offer their prayers to seek justice.

Though the last trail which is from Chaukori to Pithoragarh is long and covers a distance of 112 km, it is an easy route and one can make a stop at That Village for an overnight stay and continue to Pithoragarh that welcomes you with beautiful villages, view of the Nanda Devi Peak, Nanda Kot and Panch-Chulhi's snow capped Peaks. Alternatively you can also travel by car to Pithoragarh if you feel tired after those few treks.
