Trekking to Binsar

Apart from the famous Jim Corbett National Park, Binsar also offers a good scope for sightseeing to adventure lovers. Follow the trek route from Nainital to Almora first that covers a distance of 70 km and then hike to Binsar which is about 34 km away and a part of the Almora district. Almora also offers a good blend of scenic beauty coupled with ancient cultural influences and sacred spots but it is recommended to finish your sightseeing in Binsar and then hike back to Almora which is about 34 km away following beautiful trails laden with thick forest and the majestic Himalayas on one side. The total trekking covers a distance of 100 km from Nainital.

Binsar is not only beautiful but very calm, serene and quiet fringed with the Himalayan ranges on one side and the rest covered with rich natural surroundings of lush green and dense forest area, flora, ferns, species of wild flowers and fauna. It is perched at a height of 2412 mts above sea level and lies on the Jhandi Dhar hills.

Binsar was the former capital of the Chand Kings and It is well known that the trekking paths you see now were formed in the olden days as a result of the local villagers walking long distances from other villages to worship in the temple of Lord Bineshwar Mahadev, the God of Animals built by King Kalyan Chand who also founded this town in 1560.

Binsar offers a spectacular view from 'Zero Point', which is the highest tip of the Almora district offering unmatched view of the 300 km long stretch of the Himalayan range constituting of the Kedarnath Peak [6942 mts], Chaukhamba Peak [7140 mts], Trishul Peak [7120 mts], Nanda Devi Peak [7816 mts], Nanda Kot Peak [6611 mts] and Panchuchuli Peak [6904 mts].

Apart from enjoying the walk through the Binsar Wildlife Sanctuary, you will also cross lovely sacred lakes, small villages stringed on the Himalayan foothills and ancient Temples of Binsar. After spending a day here you can continue your journey of 34 km back to Almora to experience other trails of adventure.
